If you are visiting a large exhibition or trade show there are many things you have to consider when designing your stand.

From large format printing and exhibition signage to promotional items and other resources you may need for the duration of the show.

We’ve put together a simple list of the top 5 ways to create the best exhibition stand design to take some of the strain out of your preparation.

Think about your space and the dimensions

Without a doubt the first thing you will have to consider is the space you will have available and the dimensions of that space.

For a smaller stand you will have to be creative about how you store or display any information or products. Don’t forget to consider the vertical space that you have available to you. This is especially important when you are considering sign printing. Roll up banners are often very popular for shows as they can be seen above the heads of the crowd providing a longer reach for potential clients to see you from a distance.

Lighting and atmosphere is often overlooked

If you are considering your exhibition signage it is also important to ensure you don’t forget about lighting so that your signage will be able to be seen. Research the lighting that will already be available to you and consider if you need to bring your own additional lighting to complement your stand.

Whilst lighting is important to be seen, it’s also a good idea to consider the atmosphere for the client whilst they are at your stand. What can you do to make them stay longer? Seating is often an important consideration, as are promotional items and competitions.

Consider all the senses when you are designing your stand. For example, would it be relevant to your brand to consider fragrance diffusers? What about a sweet treat or an edible offering as a gift? The longer you can get potential clients to stay the more time you will have to engage with them.

How will you stand out from the crowd?

Exhibitions and trade shows are often very busy and so it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd especially if several of your competitors are also attending the same show.

Think about how you will make your stand original. It seems obvious to make sure your exhibition signage has been designed with your branding held prominently but what about other elements you can add. Creative and unusual ideas often stand out well. For example, unusual games or brand relevant themes can really draw a crowd.

Your imagery should portray your key messages

Consider the images you are using in your large format printing. Do they shout your brand name or is it lost in too much creativity. It’s important to match your images and imagery with you key message for show attendees.

For example, if you are promoting new seasonal products – consider images and colour palettes that promote that season.

Don’t forget that any brochures or flyers you take should not only replicate your brand but should be relevant to the products or services you are promoting. If your brochure design is looking a little old, or you have rebranded since your last show, it’s often a good idea to design and print new brochures.

Ensure your staff are approachable and informed

There is no getting away from the fact that however much you concentrate on the design of your stand. Having a perfect stand is pretty much useless if the staff at your stand and ill-informed about what they are promoting. Make sure that everyone on the stand has had appropriate training about the products and services that you offer and about the company itself.

Informed staff with upbeat personalities will leave potential clients with a positive impression of your brand. If you have a Moody Martin on your team you may want to consider using another member of staff at the cutting edge and having Martin restock brochures instead of being on the front line.
